Day 203: SummerKadahan History

We give God the glory for the historical victory of our Junior Basketball Team during the SummerKadahan 2013. I believe all the preparations and trainings did pay-off. The team bagged the first Champion award ever received by the Fatima Junior Basketball Team!

Moreover, the Senior Basketball Team won the fourth place in the bracket level and the Volleybelles the fourth place in the city level. Anyhow, there are still so much to celebrate.

That is why last June 7 at Dolores Tropicana Beach Resort, we held our Victory Party for the purposes of such victory and team building.

The Program.

The program was filled with messages, dances, games, and food. These equal a worthwhile and meaningful fun. It is worthwhile and meaningful since our purpose had been achieved. Moreover, the games that were conducted and the imposed ‘liquor ban’ really served its purpose. As far as eye can see, everybody enjoyed the good reserves of food that from evening to dawn they had something to digest. Furthermore, the beach setting provided good relaxation and extended fun.

We also gave heartfelt certificates to the players, produced a tarpaulin for signing and two for our Most Valuable Player and Mythical Five Player.

The presence of two Barangay Kagawads also made impact in encouraging our young people to pursue greater heights and uphold a stance of anti-drug abuse and healthy lifestyle.

Fun Aside.

Last Victory Party...

I have observed that the companionship and relationship they built during the SummerKadahan rose above the material gains and even the victory itself. Though every player might not share the same value, as far as I have witnessed for the past same-old gatherings, many do. That’s one essence of the game, one that lasts more than fame and honor.

This is our last SummerKadahan Victory Party for this term. And like every young people, you only become a member of the Sangguniang Kabataan once and after that all will just be memories. Who will not miss this kind of fellowship? I know I will.

So we have known that the participants are grouped into four forming a council. That is, the remainder of the participants who have not yet decided whether to be a Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman or SK Kagawad, or have decided to be an SK Kagawad, allied with a participant who pronounced decision to run as SK Chairman.

As you can see the SK Chairpersons in the governance boils to becoming a presenter and defender of the thoughts and ideas gathered in the council. As an SK Kagawad, you are not worthless or less useful. You really are very useful in advancing youth activities in your barangay.

Day 209: SK Governance v.4.0

Honorable Ana Licel “Angel” Sago, City Sangguniang Kabataan Federation Vice President and also an SK Chairwoman of Barangay Upper Labay, gave the lecture about SK Committees.

She has pointed seven mandated SK Task Forces for the SK, their function, budget allocation, and suggested activities for each.

Task Forces.

The 7 SK Task Forces* includes:

1. “Green Brigade – This shall be headed by the First SK Kagawad and shall have a membership of ten percent (10%) of the KK Members;
2. Livelihood and Entrepreneurship Task Force – This shall be headed by the Second SK Kagawad and shall have e membership of ten percent (10%) of the KK Members;
3. Disaster Coordination and Health Task Force – This shall be headed by the Third SK Kagawad and shall have a membership of twenty percent (20%) of the KK Members;
4. Education Services, Morel Recovery Activities and Anti-Drug Abuse Campaign – This shall be headed by the Fourth SK Kagawad and shall have a membership of twenty percent (20%) of the KK Members;
5. Sports Program and Community Immersion Activities Task Force – This shall be headed by the Fifth SK Kagawad and shall have membership of twenty percent (20%) of the KK Members;
6. Infrastructure Task Force – This shall be headed by the Sixth SK Kagawad and shall have a membership of ten percent (10%) of the KK Members; and
7. Legislative Works Task Force – This shall be headed by the Seventh Kagawad, and shall have a membership of ten percent (10%) of the KK Members.”

Outputs.

With reference to the structure of this SK Governance Training, the participants formed into councils where they would have their chairman. The activity for this topic was made through each council.

Four councils were formed. However, each still lacks kagawad members. These members are to be completed by those chairpersons, and current members.

This output centers on their proposal for an activity on Green Brigade. Their presentations were captured in videos of <4 minutes long so it should not be dragging for you.

Day 211: SK Governance v.3.1

We have good outputs for the essay about the power and privileges of the Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman. I just can't miss to share it. We have a pick of a Cebuano-written essay. The Cebuano version and the translated version will be available in this post.

These young people surely is in the process of gaining concepts and insights about barangay leadership and governance. Through this program we would rather develop these than the greatly celebrated and imposed "color-coding" -you know what that means!

Power and Privileges.

Ang pagka-SK Chairman dili gyud lalim ang mga responsibilidad. Daghang  mga butang ang dapat i-konsidera sa pagdawat ani nga trabaho. Dili lang sa maayong paghuna-huna og pagpatigayon sa mga kalihukan alang sa mga kabatan-unan, mga programa nga makaayo sa kahimtang sa grupo, pagpalambo sa mga butang nga mahitungod sa mga constituents kun dili sa imu pung kaugalingon nga kinahanglan nga ikaw mahisama sa ginatawag nga “complete package” sa pagka-SK Chairman na kinahanglan nimung manaa arun sa matarung ug hapsay nga pagdumala. Gibutaran ka sa mga kabataan-unan kay ilang Makita ang imung kapasidad sa maong butang.

Ingon pa ni Spiderman, “Great power comes great responsibility”. Sa pagka-SK Chairman, dakojud mga gahum ang manaa nimu kay ikaw man ang labaw sa tanang youth sa barangay ug naa gyud sa imu ang desisyon; kung kini ba makaayo o mkadaot sa sistema sa mga kabataan . Naa na gyud sa iya kun iya kining yaga-yagaan o iyang tarungon. Maong nahinahanglan gyud ug maayong lider kay ang tanan niyang mga desisyon masinati gyud ni sa tanan, kung maging aktibo ba o nahimung patay ang aktibidad sa mga batan-on.

Busa ang gobyerno nakahatag gyud ug pribilihiyo sa mga SK Chairman kay ilang masb-tan ang dako ug bug-at nga responsibilidad nga iyang ginagunitan. Maong nahimu nilang tagaan gyud ug binulan nga sweldo, mga binipisyong mahitungod sa maayong panglawas, insurance, libre nga pag-iskwela sa mga state university, pagbaton ug privilege sa serbisyong sibil ug uban pa ang SK Chairman. Kung buut nuna-hunaon, dako gyud kini nga gihatag sa panggamhanan silbing balos pud sa walay puas nga serbisyo sa maong lider. Ako, isip ng mudaganay, lami gyud sa paminaw nga gihatagan gyud ug importansya sa gobyerno ang Sk kay kaning mga pribilihiyo ang unang ang-ang sa ilang pagtqabang sa tibuok grupo sa mga kabatan-unan.

Mr. Manzo

Being an SK Chairman is not that pleasant-of-a-job. One needs to consider many things before accepting this kind of responsibility. Such does not only mean planning and implementing activities for the youth, providing programs that will positively affect the group, and developing areas that concerns his constituents but also you as an SK Chairman has a responsibility to himself. You should live by the name of a "Completely Packaged" chairman, that is, you should possess qualities for an upright and orderly governance. Besides, you were voted by the youth, as they perceived capacitated for the responsibility.

As in the movie Spiderman, "Great power comes great responsibility". You are really someone who has a great power when you are placed higher over every youth in the barangay; you are to make the decisions for them, whether to better or harm the condition of the youth. That SK Chairman has such authority at his disposal to stultify or improve. That is why the youth in the barangay needs a good leader because all his decisions can greatly affect, well, all, either to cause activity or stagnation on youth participation.

That made the government bestow considerable privileges to SK Chairpersons for they understood the weight of responsibility they carry. Such responsibility was equated with monthly honorarium, health benefits and insurances, free matriculation on state universities, civil service credits, and many others. Having these load of benefits, we can see that it is quite excessive. But surely, the government made it this way in return to incessant performance of a chairman's functions. I, as a candidate for the position, find it reasonable for the government to have given importance to the SK through such privileges—their fist step to also help, the youth.
